GameUpdate (gameupdate.org) is operated by PIXEL GOBLIN LTD, a private limited company registered in England and Wales (company number 17201045) with its registered office at 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. PIXEL GOBLIN LTD is the data controller for the personal information described in this Policy. GameUpdate is a notification service that sends members short summaries of game updates, releases, maintenance and other gaming news by email.
The game information we summarize comes from publicly available announcements by publishers and developers, such as official news posts and patch notes. It is about games, not about you, and we do not collect personal information from those sources.

Under UK and EU data protection law, we rely on performance of our contract with you to provide the Service and take payments, on our legitimate interests to secure, measure and improve the Service and prevent fraud, on your consent where the law requires it (for example for optional analytics), and on legal obligations such as tax and accounting record keeping.
We share information only with providers that help us run the Service, and only as needed for their role. They process it on our behalf under their own terms and privacy notices:
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of our members, us or others.
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies: essential cookies that keep you signed in and secure checkout, a preference cookie that remembers your language, a referral cookie that records which member invited you for up to 30 days, and a browser identifier that keeps pricing and analytics consistent across visits. Games you pick on the homepage before subscribing are kept in your browser's local storage and sent with your checkout so your alerts are ready when you join. You can clear these at any time in your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may stop sign-in or checkout from working.
Our native apps use a random telemetry identifier that is separate from your account and device-limit identifiers. When analytics are enabled, the app may send its version and build, locale, coarse device and network type, screen and feature usage, download and install outcomes, aggregate transfer-speed measurements, and bounded technical crash details such as an error category and code addresses. Usage events may be processed by PostHog. Anonymous usage and performance events are retained for up to 90 days in our application database. Native crash and error diagnostics are also retained for up to 90 days.
Native telemetry does not include your email address, username, account identifier, game or title names, download URLs, search text, authentication tokens, or memory dumps. You can turn anonymous analytics off, clear queued telemetry, and reset the random telemetry identifier from Settings in the app. Turning analytics off also disables native crash collection and upload.
We keep account and preference data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your profile, followed games and notification settings. Other information is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes in this Policy. Billing and invoice records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, which in the UK is generally six years. Referral commission and payout records are financial records and are kept for the same period.
For members of our earlier console app, we retain a purpose-specific device digest and the date a free trial was claimed to prevent repeated free trials on the same console. This record is separate from optional app analytics. Deleting your account removes its ownership reference from the record, but retains the spent-trial digest so deleting an account or reinstalling the app does not create eligibility for another free trial. Raw hardware identifiers are not sent by the app or stored in this record.
You can change the games you follow and your notification settings at any time, and unsubscribe from alert emails with the link in each email. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. If you are in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); if you are in the EU, to your local data protection authority.
Some of our providers process information outside the UK and European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where they do, we rely on adequacy decisions, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an equivalent safeguard.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit, access controls and least-privilege access for our team. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in credentials private and tell us if you believe your account has been compromised.
GameUpdate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post changes on this page and update the date above, and we will tell members by email about material changes.
